Despite the immense popularity of Fox News, all the recent scandals have put the network’s reputation on the line. The executives of the network decided to gamble when they removed Roger Ailes, the person whose vision for Fox News catapulted it to the successful media juggernaut that it is today.
The executives at Fox just took what seems to be an even bigger gamble by removing the network’s top host Bill O’Reilly. With the beloved O’Reilly out of the picture, the the chief executive officers at Fox just received another serious news.
With O’Reilly gone, these CEOs are now facing ratings plunge and the possibility that conservative followers will abandon Fox news in favor of a more updated conservative network.
“First there is Mr. O’Reilly’s own audience, which steadfastly stuck with him — and then some — as the revelations about sexual harassment first emerged in The New York Times. For as long as he has been ‘looking out for’ them — as he puts it — he has sworn to beat back the ‘secular progressive’ forces of political correctness,” penned New York Times writer Jim Rutenberg about O’Reilly’s fans.
Rutenberg went on, “His fans told interviewers they doubted the allegations against him, describing him as an ‘easy target’ for liberal groups and the same mainstream media he has made a career of lambasting.” said Chris Ruddy, CEO of Fox News’ conservative rival Newsmax Media, that Fox News is now in trouble. He added, “Generally, the Fox audience is not going to be happy the network fired him. They’re going to think it was unfair.”
